The advancement of technology has had a tremendous impact on the society.
Singapore’s former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew once said, “air conditioning is the greatest invention of the 20th century, no air conditioning Singapore simply can not develop, because the invention of air conditioning allows many countries and regions in the tropics and subtropics in the heat of summer can still live normally.”
Shenzhen is going to build the world’s largest centralized cooling system, no air conditioning in the future.
Shenzhen is worthy of being China’s capital of science and technology, many things are ahead of the country.
When many air conditioning manufacturers are still preparing to install solar panels on the outside of the air conditioner to reduce the energy consumption of the air conditioner, Shenzhen has begun to engage in centralized cooling, ready to eliminate the traditional air conditioner.
Once Shenzhen’s centralized cooling attempt is successful, other cities in the country may follow suit, the future sales of air conditioners will be significantly reduced. This thing, once again confirmed the famous saying: what killing you, often not your competitors, but the times and change!
Qianhai to say goodbye to the air conditioners
Recently, Shenzhen’s Qianhai Free Trade Zone quietly did a landmark thing.
The Qianhai 5 cold station project located in the basement of the public space plot of Unit 8, Block 1, Qianwan Area, Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation Zone, was successfully completed, achiving 24 hours and 365 days uninterrupted cooling supply.
The successful delivery of the project, marking the Qianhai Guiwan, Qianwan and Mawan 3 area all realize the regional centralized cooling coverage, the public can get more secure and stable high quality air conditioning through the municipal cooling network.
The Qianhai 5 cold station is currently the largest cooling station in Asia with a total capacity of 38,400 RT, a total ice storage capacity of 153,800 RTh, peak cooling capacity of 60,500 RT, cooling service construction area of about 2.75 million square meters.
According to the planning, a total of 10 cooling stations are planned to be built in Qianhai, Shenzhen, with a cooling capactiy of 400,000 cold tons and a service area of 19 million square meters, which is the largest regional cooling system in the world.
After this system is all completed, Shenzhen’s Qianhai, you can say goodbye to the traditional air conditioning.
Qianhai’s centralized cooling system uses “electric cooling + ice storage technology”, in the night when there is a surplus of electricity, the use of electricity to create ice, and stored in the ice storage pool for backup.
Then use ice to create low-temperature cold water, and then through a special supply pipeline, the low-temperature cold water transported to the entire Qianhai office buildings for cooling.
Overall, the principle of centralized cooling in Qianhai is similar to the principle of centralized heating in northern cities, the difference lies in the hot water made by coal-burning, and the cold water made by electricity.
In addition, when the chiller is working, it will also use the seawater in the foreshore bay to cool the chiller, releasing the heat into the seawater, which can avoid the urban heat island effect.
According to the experience of small-scale operation in Japan for more than 30 years, this centralized cooling system is about 12.2% more energy-efficient than central air conditioning for each individual building, which is a significant economic benefit.
In addition to improving energy efficiency, the centralized cooling system can also reduce noise pollution, reduce fire, air conditioning refrigerant leakage, air conditioning microbial pollution and other issues, it can bring us a lot of benefits.
Centralized cooling is good, but facing some difficulties for implement
Although the centralized cooling has many benefits , but only a few places to try. In contrast, the popularity of centralized heating is much more popular, why is this?
There are two main reasons.
The first is the necessity. People will die in the cold regions in the winter without heating, but tropical, subtropical regions, people have fans, water or other methods for cooling in summer, the air conditioners are not neccessary.
The second is the imbalance of regional economic development.
Most of the world’s developed countries and regions are located in Europe, North America and East Asia, these countries and regions have the financial resources to build centralized heating systems. And tropical and subtropical regions are mostly developing countries, it’s hard for them to invest a lot of money in centralized cooling system.
There are only a few countries having the centralized cooling systems such as France, Sweden, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada and Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and a few other countries.
But these countries, in addition to Saudi Arabia and Malaysia are located in the middle and high latitudes, that is, the summer is not very hot, so they are not very strong motivation to engage in centralized cooling.
In addition, capitalist countries and regions are basically private land ownership, and cities are basically developed gradually and naturally, so it is difficult to do centralized and unified planning and construction, so it is also very difficult to do centralized cooling.
But in China, the land in the city is state-owned, so the government can unify the planning and construction of new cities, thus realizing the unified planning and construction of centralized cooling system.
However, even in China, there are not many cities that have the conditions for centralized cooling systems, because they must meet the two conditions: one is a new town planning and another is having sufficient financial resources.
According to the current situation, it is estimated that in the short term, the four first-tier cities in the North, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, plus the provincial capitals and other second-tier cities can build such new town.
However, considering the rapid development of China’s economy and the Chinese government’s strong ability to coordinate, it is expected that centralized cooling will gradually become popular in domestic cities in the future.
After all, the Chinese government has now set a carbon-neutral target, and centralised cooling will not only help to save energy and reduce emissions, but also boost GDP growth. Isn’t it cool to have the centralised cooling and you don’t need to buy the air conditioners for your new house?
To have a comfortable indoor climate, just heating or cooling is not enough. it’s also important to keep the indoor air fresh and clean, so the energy recovery ventilator should be installed to keep good indoor air quality. The air condition system is replaceable, but the energy recovery ventilators is become more and more popular especially after the epidermic. It will become a trend of business growth.
